PHILOSOPHY

Design can influence the world. The world can influence design. This relationship must be understood in order to meaningfully change the world.Design transforms ideas into the environments we experience. What begins as an idea can become an object, a system, a space, or an experience. Once given form, it becomes part of the world around us—something we interact with, adapt to, and eventually come to understand as familiar. We are designed by that which we have designed. The things we create do more than serve us. They influence how we behave, communicate, think, and understand the world around us. This gives design agency, and with that agency comes responsibility. In a world where creating has never been more accessible, there is an increasing need for thought and intention. We must consider not only how we design, but what we design and who we design for.Design should not simply respond to the world as it exists. It has the ability to question it, reshape it, and create new possibilities within it.With greater forethought and intention, we can design not only for the world we inhabit, but for the world we want to create.
